Remember the sad news that Barneys is phasing out their less pricey Co-Op stores and converting them into mini Barneys New York boutiques? LA’s first hit of the rebranding is taking place next Thursday at the Grove, with Co-Ops in Glendale, Santa Monica and Costa Mesa to follow.

“Lower prices was the intention when the Co-Op began 27 years ago,” Barneys CEO Mark Lee tells WWD. “The Co-Op offered the spirit of Barneys style at a lower price before contemporary and secondary collections existed. With everything we’re doing, it’s more about the edit now. It’s about how we curate these small specialty stores.”

To make up for higher price tags, Barneys hopes their new, neighborhood-specific inventory will attract Co-Op fans to these renovated shops, so look out for more LA designers and inspired items at the Grove store come August 1st. As mentioned, menswear has been sacrificed to make way for these changes.
