LA is not a burger-starved town. Far from it, actually. After all, Southern California was the birthplace of fast food. But that is not stopping the march of New York City´s Shake Shack, the famed burger “stand” known for its all-natural, antibiotic-free Angus beef burgers, griddled hot dogs, frozen custard, crinkle-cut fries and more. The burger powerhouse is opening its first West Coast location in West Hollywood this spring, with another opening at the new annex at The Americana at Brand in the fall. LA fans of those Shackburgers don´t have to wait until then (or go to Las Vegas, the closest outlet) to get their fix: There´s a Shake Shack pop-up at Son of a Gun on Monday, Jan. 25, from 6 to 11 PM.
That pop-up will not be easy to get into considering it´s walk-in only and SOAG is a very small space. And…it´s Shake Shack. People will definitely line up for the opportunity to try the burgers (there will also be a tuna melt, chocolate whoopie pies and specially priced cocktails available that night). Plan accordingly.
As for the major expansion plans, the company started on a major expansion plan outside of New York in 2014 and announced its plans for California in 2015. They´re shooting to open at least 10 domestic company-operated units each year, hoping to eventually grow to at least 450 locations. For now, we´ll take the two. Or three, actually: While not confirmed by Shake Shack, there are already some pretty solid rumors swirling about a Downtown LA outpost coming to 8th and Hill streets in 2017. Let the In-N-Out vs. Shake Shack burgers commence!
