One of the world´s most iconic pastry brands makes for the
West Coast
French bakery icon Laduree is headed for The Grove in Los
Angeles, sources confirmed today. The prestigious macaron-makers first came to
life more than 150 years ago in Paris, and currently operates domestic locations
in New York City and Miami.
Barricade work just went up outside the forthcoming
location at the massively popular outdoor mall, which will require a touch of
construction before coming to life later this year or in early 2017. It’s a
massive coup for The Grove as a whole, which has been overshadowed of late by
the emergence of a bundle of new food concepts coming adjacent to The Americana
at Brand in Glendale, also a Caruso-owned property. It’s certainly the biggest
opening since Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill, which landed more than a year
ago.
For those unfamiliar, Ladurée is perhaps the most famous
macaron house in the world. In addition
to macarons and pastries, the restaurant portion is a wonderfully decorated
fancy hotel-style tea lounge, which means it´ll be the ideal post-shopping
hangout.
Considered by some to be the creators of the colorful sweet
snack itself, the dessert perfectionists founded its first bakery in 1862, but
only began expanding internationally in earnest back in 2012. Ladurée now lists
locations everywhere from Brazil to Australia to Qatar to South Korea — and, in
time, The Grove in Los Angeles.
