The Glendale Galleria is working hard to rehab its dated, fortress-like building, but shoppers who’ve been recently can attest to the fact that the place looks pretty terrible mid-construction, with large chunks of flooring removed, holes punched in walls, and entire facades ripped off like a plaster-hungry Velociraptor was let loose in there after-hours. Some areas are eerily quite, like the zone around the entrance to Nordstrom. And though construction is expected to finish up this year, Nordstrom won’t be there to see it. They’re jumping ship soon for shiny neighboring shopping center Americana at Brand.
This morning, bigwig developer Rick Caruso hosted journos in his private suite at the Americana to talk about upcoming developments. He shared news of two upcoming restaurants, Din Tai Fung and Michael Mina’s Bourbon Steak, and more details on Nordstrom’s cushy new digs. The location will rise three stories and will open September 20th. When it does, it will debut the department store’s first farm-to-table restaurant, named Bar Verde, on the third level.
Don’t feel too bad for the Galleria, though: Its massive Bloomingdale’s store is set to open this fall.
