LA’s answer to New York’s Rockefeller Center holiday spectacular is The Grove’s Tree Lighting Ceremony. Free and open to the public, the annual event is always crazy-packed and features performances from a slew of nostalgia-inducing acts, like the Backstreet Boys. This year’s show promises to deliver similar pandemonium.
Taking place on Sunday, November 17 from 7:30 to 9:30pm, the “Hollywood Christmas at The Grove!” show sponsored by Citi will feature live music from seven big names: Mary J. Blige, Cee Lo Green, Jewel, Gavin Degraw, Il Volo, Babyface and Toni Braxton. As we mentioned when The Grove mounted its 110-foot white fir last month, the tree lighting portion of the night will involve 15,000 lights and 10,000 ornaments, so expect a blindingly bright spectacle.
Protips: get there super-early (like, 5pm, seriously) to score a prime spot, dress warm (it’s getting cold at night), park anywhere but at The Grove (unless you like traffic jams) and bring ear plugs, because there will be superfan squealing.
