Last week Roy Choi and Jon Favreau brought the Cubano, the sandwich that Favreau´s movie Chef is making famous, to huge lines of people at a party at The Line Hotel. Today, they both Tweet about a four-day pop-up happening at The Grove this weekend. That´s right: you can now watch Chef the movie at Pacific Theaters and afterwards walk over to have the Cubano sandwich that was making your stomach growl so loud people wanted to kick you out of the theater. Why The Grove, besides the fact that the movie theater is right next store? “That´s exactly why!!! The place you´d least expect,” says Choi. They´re setting up shop in the former Fat Cow space next to the theater on Friday through Monday, May 23-26, from 7-11 PM. The sandwiches will be $8 with a piquillo portabello Cubano for vegetarians, and $2 agua frescas.

But let´s dissect the rest of Choi´s Tweet: “@jon_favreau @chef_timothy Rory Herrmann, Bill Chait & Papi are bringing El Jefe to the Grove this weekend.” What does Bill Chait, the restaurateur behind uber hot spots Republique, Bestia, Sotto and more, and chefs Rory Herman (former Bouchon chef and now director of Chait´s culinary operations) and Timothy Hollingsworth (former French Laundry chef now heading up Sprout´s forthcoming restaurant at the Broad Museum downtown) have to do with El Jefe and Cubano sandwiches? We don´t know for sure but something is definitely afoot, and it sounds hot…and deliciously filled with ham, pickles, cheese, mayo and mustard.
