The
Brombergs first opened Blue Ribbon in Manhattan´s Soho in 1992, which sort of
ushered in a new more-casual era in dining. There were no reservations, the
menu was eclectic, the hours were late. They went on to open 17 iterations of
Blue Ribbon across the globe, and this will be the first California outpost for
the group; the closest one to LA is at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.
Taking
over Gordon Ramsay´s short-lived Fat Cow space, Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar &
Grill will be smack-dab in the center of it all, with outdoor seating
overlooking the fountains. Like the other locations, the menu will feature
sushi and other Japanese-inspired dishes like Maine lobster steamed with miso
butter, Wagyu rib eye with enoki ponzu and sea salt, and roasted beef marrow
bones. While the sushi offerings are impressive — especially the platters — the
fried chicken has been widely heralded as the best in New York since the 90´s
(here´s a peek at the Brombergs´ fast-casual bird concept), and it´s definitely
worth all the finger-licking praise. This is some of the best news we´ve heard
for The Grove in a long time.
