From coding to fashion, Karlie Kloss dishes on her favorite
things to Booth Moore, THR´s senior fashion editor.
Karlie Kloss, the 24-year-old supermodel extraordinaire,
fresh off the stage announcing this year´s British Fashion Council´s Fashion
Awards nominees with Swarovski at the Soho House, speaks with THR´s senior
fashion editor, Booth Moore, at the Swarovski store at The Grove in Los
Angeles. She dishes on three of her favorite topics: fashion (“the nice
one´s finish first”), philanthropy (“focused on preserving and
protecting our natural resources”) and coding (“it´s like learning
your ABCs”).
The versatility of Swarovski pieces:
“That´s the thing about Swarovski too, you can dress it
up or you can dress it down. It can be on a Versace Atelier Couture gown or it
can be [worn with] jeans and a T-shirt.”
On working with Jean Paul Gaultier:
“He loves what he does, and that comes through in every
aspect of his business. He is in fashion because he´s an artist. He is, above
all, a really wonderful, kind person.”
How Kloss got her start coding:
“When I started to learn how to code, I had no idea
really what it is, but I just knew it was this giant, mysterious puzzle and
this very elusive idea. What is this thing coding that everyone is talking
about? Tech companies are built using code, and they are transforming
industries, whether it´s fashion or communications or health care. The world
that we live in is being totally transformed by technology.”
Why Kloss is passionate about preserving and protecting our
natural resources:
“I´m very proud and passionate about my hometown, St.
Louis. This initiative is about conserving water and preserving and protecting
our natural resources that are so fragile and so important. The first one is
going to be on the Mississippi River in St. Louis, and it´s just a wonderful
project.”
Believing you can be nice in fashion:
“Fashion is a very competitive world, but at the same
time, it is a family network of people who are all incredibly passionate about
creativity and creating, inspiring the world and inspiring one another. I think
it´s really fitting that it´s the global fashion awards.”
