The countdown is officially on. It’s T-2 weeks until Christmas, and if you’re like me you’ve left taking your kids to see Santa Claus to what feels like the eleventh hour. In New York City, finding a place where your children can sit on Saint Nick’s lap that’s relatively stress-free isn’t child’s play. There are queues to contend with everywhere you go—and waiting doesn’t bode well for my fidgety almost-2-year-old. Those in the know download apps that allow you to make reservations in advance. But even armed with technology, you often end up feeling powerless. There’s only so much your smart phone can do when you’re faced with weekends that are booked solid and relegated to a weekday time slot during regular office hours (not an easy feat for a working mom). After five Santa visits for two kids under my belt—for which I’ve spent countless hours in line—I have a thing or two to share about how to see dear old Saint Nick. Here’s hoping your encounter is merry—and there aren’t any meltdowns to speak of . . . from kids or parents.

Have a favorite Santa that we’ve left off the list? Let us know in the comments below, and we’ll add him.
