There´s just something about summer that screams lobster.
Boiled lobster, grilled lobster, chilled lobster, lobster rolls…you name it.
The semi-secret pop-up restaurant K. Ramen. Burger. Beer., located on the
second floor of Katsuya at The Americana at Brand in Glendale, has its own take
on lobster specials: ramen. The broth is made with both long-simmered chicken
and fish stock and kimchi, which gives it a reddish hue. It´s rich with lobster
butter, and there are golden chives, green onion and marinated egg along with
springy noodles. It might not be the coolest thing to eat on a hot day, but you
can sit around communal tables in the air-conditioned room, drink a frozen
Kirin beer and watch the fountains dance outside.
The menu features other soups, including chashu chicken,
black miso and miso chicken ramen. Plus, as the name of the joint states,
burgers — the first for any Katsuya-branded restaurant — and an extensive
Japanese beer selection. There´s also poke, of course, and tater tots with
duck-fat drizzle, and Coolhaus ice cream for dessert. The concept is really
less pop-up than test kitchen, and since they´re hitting on all the trends
(burgers! ramen! poke!), we can see it rolling out as a restaurant within a
restaurant at other SBE Katsuya´s around town. For now, get the lobster ramen
and more for lunch and dinner, Sunday through Thursday, 11:30 AM-9 PM, and
until 10 PM on Friday through Saturday. You´ll also find it on the DineLA dinner
menu now through July 31.
