The country’s biggest name in sportswear is coming to Thousand Oaks.

Nike will fill the spot formerly occupied by Sports Authority in the Westlake Promenade, Caruso Properties, owner of the Promenade, told the Acorn this week.

The company’s unmistakable “swoosh” was hung from the window of the empty building earlier this month, tipping off the public to the impending change.

Nike spokesperson Grace Chang confirmed via email the sports apparel and shoe company would be taking over the more than 20,000-square-foot space.

Sports Authority closed in summer 2016 not long after the company declared bankruptcy.

“We’re looking forward to serving consumers with innovative product, services and experiences when our Nike Thousand Oaks store opens at The Promenade at Westlake this fall,” Chang wrote, declining further comment.

Beaverton, Ore.-based Nike grossed $32.4 billion in 2016 but saw its stocks tumble 20 percent in the end of the year after a high in August. The sports giant is facing competition from companies like Adidas and Under Armour.

Nike operates 931 stores in the world. The Nike store nearest to Thousand Oaks is in Camarillo.
