The Commons at Calabasas is a stunning crescent of high-end retail stores, restaurants and entertainment choices set against the gentle hillsides of Calabasas, one of the most affluent communities in California. Since opening in 1998, The Commons at Calabasas has been embraced by the community as its de facto town square. It draws customers from such upscale enclaves as Malibu, Thousand Oaks, Calabasas, Sherman Oaks, Ventura, San Fernando Valley and Simi Valley.
Development of the 215,000-square-foot property began with a vision of an Umbrian village, complementing the community’s dominant Mediterranean style. Caruso designed the project along the shape of a long, subtle arc to create enveloping warmth. The rules had to be rewritten as a result because this approach ran counter to the traditional development path, which focuses on square corners to maximize the real estate footprint.
The signature Caruso accents of meandering fountains and ponds, hand-carved statuary, public plazas and beautiful landscaping, including a rose garden, can be found throughout this beloved space.
